Murat began his tango journey in 1998 in Istanbul, where he was immediately drawn to the improvisational spirit of the dance. Born in Turkey with Italian and Croatian roots, he studied fine arts before continuing his education in the United States. While earning his MFA at George Washington University, he also began building his career as a tango teacher, organizer, and DJ in Washington, DC. He later moved to New York City, where his work in tango continued to grow.
Alongside Michelle, Murat went on to teach at festivals, universities, and tango communities across the United States and abroad, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii. Over the years, he has also become known for his musicality lectures and acrylic artwork inspired by tango music. Today, he continues to teach, perform, lecture, and organize tango events internationally. He is also involved in a motion capture project exploring ways to visualize dance and movement.
